Today was a great day because President Obama vetoed the construction of the Keystone Pipeline. A pipeline that would have span from the Canadian tar sands to the Golf of Mexico, passing over disaster vulnerable land and highly sensitive ecosystems.
However it didn’t take long for the GOP candidates to weigh in. I don’t understand why they think this is a job killer. The jobs created by building this pipeline would be temporary. And additional jobs at the oil refineries are probably negligible and help the Golf region only.
This a real move to reduce dependence on oil. I can only hope Canada’s spiral out of environmental progress will end soon.
Rick Santorum said: “When I become president next year in January, one of the first things I will do is sign an order to build the Keystone pipeline, because it needs to be done.” A scary thought but we all know that’s never going to happen….
